Yoga classes in Hobart

Weekly yoga classes are a time for rejuvenation, learning and relaxation. Ganges Yoga caters to different needs and experience with three course levels. Class sizes are small so that teaching can be personalised: as numbers are limited, casual attendance is only an option if places are available, so please enquire first. You'll find class descriptions, term dates, fees, and enrolment info below. Learn more about the contents and structure of a Ganges Yoga class here.

Why courses instead of drop in classes?

Level 1-3 courses at Ganges Yoga are usually 10 weeks long. This means you benefit from a sequence of classes that the teacher structures according to the needs of the group. Teaching is systematic so that you gradually progress in your experience and understanding of yoga. We encourage you to make the committment to a course and discover the difference for yourself.

Class Descriptions

Foundation Yoga

Learn the basics and become familiar with this style of yoga. The Foundation course is more interactive than other courses. It enables you to start developing flexibility, learn simple breathing techniques and build up the practice of yoga nidra deep relaxation with clear instructions and no pressure. Yoga nidra includes making a positive resolve that is personal to you. Your teacher will guide you in creating a resolve. Foundation Yoga prepares you for the 10-week Beginners course.

Beginners offers a systematic introduction to the fundamental practices of holistic yoga: postures, breathing and relaxation.

Progressive assumes knowledge of the basics. The dynamic sequence, Salute to the Sun is taught, classical yogic pranayamas are developed and meditation is introduced.

In-depth is for experienced students who wish to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga with stronger asanas, more advanced pranayamas and longer meditations. Each course is based around a theme such as the chakras, a meditation technique or a focus on an aspect of health, to name just a few of the many topics delved into.

Yoga for Mood Management

Do you suffer from fluctuating and disturbing moods? Yoga offers practical tools for mood management in daily life – postures, breathing, relaxation and mind management combine to help manage and stabilize moods and emotions. Your teacher, Pippa, is a psychologist and yoga teacher. Join her to learn how yoga can help.

The Yoga for Mood Management course was originally developed by Dr Katie Pullinger, a general practitioner who recognises that yoga has a role to play in everyday mental health.

Yoga for War Veterans and ADF Personnel

Military service carries the risk of physical and mental injury and illness. Many of the participants suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety and other health issues. These classes focus on using yoga and meditation therapeutically to relieve the PTSD by strengthening the relaxation response and developing mind management skills. Very gentle, soothing and calming, with time for sharing morning tea afterwards. See the Life Beyond Trauma page for more information on this topic.
